Friends of 2125 Chestnut Street receives $250K grant for new roof $500K must be raised to complete the work

Friends of 2125 Chestnut Street is extremely proud to announce that we have been awarded a $250,000 grant by the National Fund for Sacred Places. The grant will partially fund replacement of the roof of First Unitarian Church. We are one of 16 organizations to receive a total of more than $3.5 million in funding this year from the National Fund, a program of Partners for Sacred Places in collaboration with the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

The roof has reached it’s 30-year lifespan. After decades of a historically inappropriate surface, we will restore the roof to its original distinctive character. Friends of 2125 Chestnut Street has engaged preservation architects patterhn ives, llc to prepare construction documents and permit applications, and to supervise roof replacement.

OUR CHALLENGE: Raise the required $500,000 match within two years to receive the full award. The minimum cost of the roof replacement is estimated at $750,000. Our fundraising effort: Raise the Roof, is now underway. All donations to the roof fund are gratefully accepted.
