Friends of 2125 Chestnut Street is dedicated to the care and improvement of the First Unitarian Church of Philadelphia

Friends of 2125 Chestnut Street and First Unitarian Church of Philadelphia launch a

$4,000,000 Capital Campaign

Our goals are to replace the roof, care for the masonry and windows, upgrade mechanical and electrical systems, air condition the sanctuary, provide new ADA accessible bathrooms, double our accessible space by providing an elevator to the lower level, and enhance the usability of the chapel and classroom spaces.

The roof has reached it’s 30-year lifespan. After decades of a historically inappropriate surface, we will restore the roof to its original distinctive character. Friends of 2125 Chestnut Street has engaged preservation architects patterhn ives, llc to prepare construction documents and permit applications, and to supervise roof replacement.

With the installation of an elevator and new bathrooms we will nearly double the accessible space in the building. This will allow us to better serve the over 50,000 people who come to the church for concerts, daycare services, music lessons, public meetings, and many other events over the course of each year.

We are on our way

To date F2125 has secured grants totaling $350,000 from Partners for Sacred Places and the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. Other state grant applications are in the works. F2125 donors have contributed and pledged over $200,000 toward our goal. First Unitarian church member pledges are well on their way toward their goal $1,500,000.

It is time for friends of First Unitarian Church and the great architecture of Frank Furness to step up
